What do people do there?

There are two schools – primary and secondary – a large community health centre, government offices, community centre, two large grocery and department stores, an Anglican and Full Gospel church, two small hotels, and several buildings housing the offices and printshops of the Co-operative. The days are usually bustling with people moving to and from work, school, and shopping. In the evening, people visit. Cable television has brought a profusion of channels from ‘down south’. In Inuit households, the television is usually on, with the volume turned down and the radio turned up. Local and regional radio is broadcast in Inuktitut, and is the lifeblood of communication within and among these northern communities.
