Printmaking Processes 2011 Catalogue Foreword 2011 Fall Collection Price List Aulajijakka (Things I Remember)

Regardless of the medium, proofing is the essence of the creative process in printmaking. The Inuktitut word for proofing is uuturaqtu, which means "to try different things." In the studio setting, that means trying different colours, compositions and techniques until the image works. Each medium offers its own rewards and presents its own limitations, and this knowledge is hard won in printmaking. One learns by trial and error, and that is how the printmakers in the Kinngait Studios have learned their craft.
