SIASSIE KENNEALLY |

 |
Siassie Kenneally was born in 1969 at Iqalugajuk, one of the traditional camp areas along the south Baffin coast. She grew up in Cape Dorset and at her family’s outpost camp, Shatuqituk. Her father is the late Qaqa Ashoona, a highly respected carver and son of the late Pitseolak Ashoona. Her mother, Mayoreak Ashoona, is a graphic artist and her work is also well known. Siassie credits both her mother and grandmother as important artistic influences in her life.
Siassie started drawing in 2004, joining her cousins Suvinai Ashoona and Annie Pootoogook in the Kinngait Studios. Her work was first exhibited at the Toronto International Art Fair (Feheley Fine Arts, 2006), then in the exhibition Ashoona: Third Wave (Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton, Dec/2006 – Feb/2007) and finally in the exhibition 3 Cousins (Feheley Fine Arts, Spring 2007).
"Fish Tails" (Spring, 2008) is the first print edition of Siassie’s work.
