PAPIARA TUKIKI |

 |
Papiara is relative newcomer to the Kinngait Studios. Born on Christmas Day, 1942, she is represented for the fourth time in the annual print collection with one image this year – Ukaliq Listens (2008-27). “Ukaliq” is the Inuktitut word for hare or rabbit; in Papiara’s hand the creature is recognizable only by its distinctive ears as it transforms from (or to?) its human counterpart.
Papiara is married to Qopie Tukiki, a long-time employee of the community’s Housing Association. They live in Cape Dorset.
